Type 201 stainless steel is a low-cost alternative to traditional chromium-nickel stainless steels such as 301 and 304, where the nickel is replaced by added manganese and nitrogen.Type 201 is essentially non-magnetic in the annealed condition, but becomes magnetic after cold working and can achieve high tensile strengths.Type 201 can be used as a replacement for Type 301 in many applications. It is used primarily for decorative piping, industrial piping, and some shallow drawn products.
